CRH
Hypothalamic HormoneAlso known as: Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone · CRF · Corticoiberin
The hypothalamic 41-amino-acid neuropeptide that drives ACTH release from the pituitary, initiating the stress response axis. Research tool for HPA axis assessment.
Typical Dose
1 mcg/kg IV (diagnostic CRH stimulation test)
Route
Intravenous (diagnostic)
Cycle
Single dose diagnostic
Half-life
~7–10 minutes
Storage
2–8°C.
Overview
CRH is the key hypothalamic regulator of the HPA axis, stimulating anterior pituitary corticotrophs to release ACTH, which then drives adrenal cortisol production. Clinically, ovine CRH (corticorelin) is used as a diagnostic test for Cushing's syndrome (to distinguish pituitary vs. ectopic ACTH). Research interest focuses on CRH antagonists for anxiety & depression.
Quick Start Guide
Diagnostic use only (CRH stimulation test). 1 mcg/kg IV bolus.
