VIP

Neuropeptide / Vasodilator

Also known as: Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide · VIP 1-28

A 28-amino-acid neuropeptide with broad vasodilatory, anti-inflammatory, & immune-modulatory effects. Studied for pulmonary arterial hypertension & inflammatory disorders.

Typical Dose

50–200 mcg/day

Route

Subcutaneous injection or inhaled (clinical)

Cycle

4–8 weeks

Half-life

~1–2 minutes (rapid plasma degradation)

Storage

Lyophilized: 2–8°C. Reconstituted: use within 24 hours (poor stability).

Overview

VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide produced by neurons throughout the gut, respiratory tract, & CNS. It acts on VPAC1 & VPAC2 receptors to produce vasodilation, bronchodilation, GI motility regulation, immune suppression, & circadian rhythm modulation.

Clinical development has focused on pulmonary arterial hypertension (inhaled VIP showed pulmonary vasodilation in small trials) & inflammatory bowel disease. In research wellness contexts, VIP has attracted interest for its anti-inflammatory, vagal-tone-enhancing, & sleep-regulating properties.

Quick Start Guide

1

Research protocols vary widely. Common: 50–200 mcg SubQ once daily.

2

VIP is unstable — use freshly reconstituted solution; do not store reconstituted product more than 24 hours.

Research Indications

Pulmonary arterial hypertension

Research Only

Inhaled VIP reduced pulmonary vascular resistance in small human trials. No approved therapeutic product.

Anti-inflammatory / immune modulation

Moderate

Reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines. Studied in Crohn's disease & RA models.

Research Protocols

Anti-inflammatory research

4–8 weeks

Dose

50–100 mcg SubQ

Frequency

Once daily

Route

SubQ

Use freshly reconstituted solution; VIP degrades rapidly.

Side Effects & Safety

Common

  • Flushing
  • Hypotension (vasodilator effect)
  • Headache

Uncommon

  • Tachycardia

When to Stop

  • Symptomatic hypotension
  • Signs of allergic reaction

How to Reconstitute

1

Reconstitute with sterile water immediately before use.

2

VIP degrades rapidly — use within 1–2 hours of reconstitution.

Dosing math: Do not use BAC water for multi-dose storage. VIP is very unstable in aqueous solution.

Quality Indicators

Good — use as normal

  • Clear, colorless solution immediately after reconstitution

Discard immediately

  • Any reconstituted solution more than 2–4 hours old
